As of January 1st 2020, Switzerland has adopted new language requirements for both its temporary and permanent residence applications.

Applicants for both B and C permits in Switzerland as well as their dependents might have to provide a recognized language certificate as proof of their language proficiency.

Exceptions can be made for nationals from Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Liechtenstein, Netherlands, Portugal and Spain.
There is a list available online that states which proficiency is required for which permit, ranging from A1 to B1.
