In order to be able to travel outside of Chile, foreign nationals with pending Chilean visa or residence applications are required to obtain approval before travelling.

This change was implemented last week and will have a big impact on foreign nationals whose visa and residence applications are in

“processing status”, and their ability to travel outside of Chile on short notice and will limited business travel options Previously,

a courier receipt from a Chilean post office would suffice if foreign nationals with pending status wanted to travel outside of Chile.

As of last week foreign nationals are required to send an email to the Immigration Department five days prior to travel, attach a letter which explains the reason of travel,

and submit an international travel itinerary along with a receipt showing their visa or residence application has been filled.
